Well, did you go to OAKS, Oldfurlong?
Did you know that we played the whole night long?
With special guests we all played a new song
For Miss Acorne who planned it all.
We had a great time yesterday at the Oaks, playin in front of a large home crowd who seemed very receptive to the Aleford Band type of music.
Our first set was played by the three foundin members, warmin up the crowd with a collection of our familiar and loved songs with, I think, one or two new tunes.
For the second set we welcomed the lovely Miss Polyantha Rose to join us. Polyantha is an accomplished musician in her own right of course, but we couldn't help widenin her education by teachin her enough theorbo to allow her to play that on some tunes, so that I was free to sing and dance. I'm still a bit shy about dancin whilst singing but Toolee says I should not just stand there like a lemon, scratchin!
We introduced a couple of new tunes to this set, most notably 'Time in a Bottle' and 'Harvest Moon', both of which had lovely and suitable words already, so I did not feel it was necessary or even appropriate to change them. I have a habit of changin words to songs that I have written, updatin them to make them fit the occasion and sometimes just because I think that I can improve on what I did a few months ago.
We had planned a very special song, to the old tune of 'Amarillo' (I think that is a kind of pear liqueur). We invited some very famous musicians to join us to sing it, because Gennetta had written the parts for ten players. Because they were comin from all parts of Middle Earth where (strangely) the time is different, we had to plan it for when everyone could be there and yet not be asleep! When the time arrived ten of us were on the stage and sang the special song, 'Is this the way to OAKS, Oldfurlong?' for the lovely lassie who has planned the series of dances; our neighbour Acorne.
I think Acorne enjoyed it and hopefully the rest of the audience did.
Then on with the show, with some new and old tunes. Bird songs were of course a feature, and the encore included a new bird song in which I explained that there is one bird that the Alefords will not kill. If you missed that important information then you must come to our next concert to find out which one it is and why!
Here you can see some magic moving drawings that Mr Zedrock gave us, for which many thanks!
We would like to thank Miss Acorne; Hollyberye; Kirgon; Ruffin; Scropy; Tunvil and Zedrock; the vendors and most of all the audience. It was an excellent and grand concert thanks to you all.
